Nest Cameras with Matter 1.5.1, Sensereo Airo, and Pan and Tilt for the Aqara G350

This week in smart home: four Google Nest cameras are listed for Matter 1.5.1 at the CSA, Sensereo opens pre-orders for its modular Airo air quality system on September 4, and Aqara brings pan, tilt, and zoom over Matter to the Camera Hub G350

This week is mostly about cameras and sensors. Four Google Nest cameras have shown up at the Connectivity Standards Alliance with Matter 1.5.1, although the firmware that enables it has not shipped yet. Sensereo opens pre-orders on September 4 for Airo, an air quality system built from individual modules that reaches the smart home over Matter over Thread. There is also a new base station from X-Sense, pan and zoom over Matter on the Aqara G350, a video on IKEA's cheap Matter devices, and a look ahead to IFA in early September.

Google's Nest Cameras Clear Matter 1.5.1 Certification

Entries for the Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor, Nest Doorbell, and the bundle of Nest Cam Outdoor and Floodlight have appeared at the Connectivity Standards Alliance. All four are set to support the Matter 1.5.1 specification with the firmware update to version 1.8, which adds parallel audio and video streams for cameras. Most units still run version 1.75, and Google has not given a rollout date. None of this helps in Apple Home for now: Apple has yet to support Matter cameras, and nothing has been announced for iOS 27 so far.

Sensereo Airo Measures Air Quality in Modules

Sensereo opens pre-orders on September 4 for the Airo air quality system it showed at CES, with shipping estimated for the fourth quarter. The Airo Dock forms the base, joined by wireless pods for CO₂, TVOC, particulate matter, and temperature and humidity that you can spread across several rooms. The battery pods last up to 30 days depending on the sampling interval. Matter over Thread handles the smart home side, with the dock acting as a Thread border router. German pricing is still unannounced.

Worth Watching: IKEA's Suspiciously Cheap Smart Home Devices

Mrwhosetheboss has worked his way through IKEA's suspiciously cheap smart home range, from sensors and plugs to bulbs running Matter over Thread, and digs into how IKEA can sell them for so little.

In Brief

X-Sense Certifies a New Base Station With Matter

X-Sense sells comparatively cheap safety hardware: smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, water leak and motion detectors, and door and window contacts. A new model called the SBS0A has now appeared at the CSA, supporting Matter 1.5 and joining the network over Wi-Fi. Which alarms and sensors it will pass through to Apple Home is still open.

Pan, Tilt, and Zoom Over Matter: New Firmware for the Aqara G350

Aqara is rolling out firmware 4.5.70_0002.0017 for the Camera Hub G350. It exposes pan, tilt, zoom, and saved presets over Matter. SmartThings already handles it. In Apple Home you still have to switch to the Aqara app to move the camera.

Tip of the Week: Get Your Hands on the New Arrivals at IFA

Early September gets busy. IFA runs in Berlin from September 4 to 8 and traditionally brings a flood of new devices, with Matter on board in many of them. Unlike CES, it is open to the general public. So you can get your hands on the new arrivals before they reach the shops.
